A
facelift or rhytidectomy is an
operation that is performed to
rejuvenate the face as it ages.
The face is generally divided
into thirds, the upper, middle,
and lower face. Depending on
which of these areas may be the
focus, a
combination of these
operations may be performed.
A Face Lift (technically known
as rhytidectomy) can't stop this
aging process. What it can do is
"set back the clock," improving
the most visible signs of aging
by removing excess fat,
tightening underlying muscles,
and redraping the skin of your
face and neck. A facelift can be
done alone, or in conjunction
with other procedures such as a
forehead lift,
eyelid surgery,
or
nose reshaping.
Mini Face Lift or S Face Lift.
The mini face lift rejuvenates
the lower third of the face
including the jowls and neck.
Facial rejuvenation usually
means different things to
different people. There are
non-invasive and minimally
invasive treatments and
procedures used to improve
slight facial imperfections.
There are plastic surgery
procedures that can dramatically
improve the appearance of the
face. All of these are forms of
facial rejuvenation. The most
successful approach may be a
combination of procedures and
treatments for a comprehensive
facial rejuvenation strategy. |

Americans spent over $1 billion
on Facelift and Facial surgery
in 2005, according to the
American Society of Plastic
Surgeons. Facelift (Rhytidectomy)
is a major procedure to treat
facial skin laxity and sagging.
The vast majority of facelifts
are performed in people 35-64
years of age (81%). |
|
|
|
 |
|
More
people than ever before –men and
women- are enjoying the benefits
that facelift surgery can offer.
As we all know, we weren’t born
with sags in our faces, which
can distort our facial shape,
give a tired or angry look, and
change our view of ourselves.
As people age, the effects of
gravity, exposure to the sun,
and the stresses of daily life
can be seen in their faces. Deep
creases form between the nose
and mouth; the jawline grows
slack and jowly; folds and fat
deposits appear around the neck.

Incisions
are made on either side of the
face from inside the hairline at
the temples, in front of the
ear, around the earlobe, in the
crease behind the ear and to the
lower scalp. The design of these
incisions may vary from patient
to patient and according to the
surgeon's personal technique.
Loose skin is pulled up and
backward, and the excess is
removed. A layer of tissue over
the facial muscles can be
tightened as well, and this can
greatly enhance the results of
the facelift, especially on the
neck.
Facelift incisions are very
easily hidden in the hair and
around the creases of the ear.
Most facelift patients (even
with the more extensive lifts)
are able to resume normal (but
not strenuous) activities within
a week to ten days. All
facelifts are performed under
local anesthesia as an
out-patient. Nurses can be
arranged for care post surgery
as needed.

What to Expect if
You Have A Facelift
|
|
|
You will have a
bandage for the
first night. The
tiny surgical drains
placed in the hair
behind your ears
will be painlessly
removed along with
your bandages on the
following morning.
After an eyelid
procedure, ice
compresses are
applied for 24
hours, but the eyes
are not bandaged and
lubricating
ointment/drops used
may cause blurred
vision for one to
two hours.
Immediately after
the Facelift, you
may notice a tight
sensation in the
neck and under the
chin. This feeling
may last several
weeks and is a
normal part of
recovery.
Some swelling and
discoloration is
expected following
your Facelift, but
usually subsides
within 10-14 days.
Your surgeon will
want to examine you
several times during
the weeks following
your Facelift. Your
stitches will be
removed in stages,
usually between the
third and tenth
postoperative days.

Candidates for Mid Facelift
Surgery |
|
Mid face
lift surgery targets the area
around the nose, eyes, and
corners of the mouth. These
procedures are particularly
effective for patients seeking
cheek elevation when the neck
and areas beneath the chin do
not require lifting. While some
surgeons perform mid face lift
surgery with traditional lower
face lift techniques, many
utilize endoscopic face lift
techniques to improve precision
and recovery time. |
|
Mid
Facelift Procedure |
|
During a
mid face lift, small, deep
incisions are made in the muscle
tissue of the face. If the
surgeon so chooses, an endoscope
(a small, camera-like device) is
inserted through the incisions
to view the procedure
internally. Once the incisions
are made, the doctor adjusts the
fat and muscle tissue, pulling
up the middle of the face to
smooth and tighten the skin.
Finally, the incisions are
sutured and the healing process
begins. After a mid face lift,
typical recovery time is about
one week, possibly shorter when
endoscopic mid face lift
techniques are used. Because
this procedure is more focused
and less invasive than a
standard face lift or deep plane
face lift, mid face lift
patients experience quicker
results with less bruising and
swelling. |
|
Mid
Facelift Techniques |
|
Surgeons
have two
different
mid
facelift
techniques
at their
disposal.
In the
traditional
technique,
the
surgeon
gains
access
to the
cheeks
and
lower
eyelids
by using
an
incision
hidden
in the
lower
lash
line.
Sometimes
a
surgeon
will
also
make an
incision
in the
nasolabial
fold.
This
traditional
technique
is best
suited
to
patients
primarily
needing
their
tissues
to be
lifted
upward,
rather
than
horizontally
or
diagonally.
The
second
technique
is able
to
produce
somewhat
more
dramatic
results.
In this
method,
the
procedure
is
performed
through
two
endoscopic
incisions
placed
in the
temples,
hidden
behind
the
hairline.
This
gives
the
surgeon
a pair
of
access
points
through
which he
can lift
facial
muscles
and skin
both
vertically
and
diagonally.
Regardless
of which
technique
is used,
the mid
facelift
is able
to
correct
under-eye
bags,
hollowness
in the
upper
cheeks,
and
prominent
nasal
folds.

Commonly Combined
Non-Invasive or
Minimally Invasive
Procedures |
|
|
|
A
comprehensive treatment plan may
include multiple non-invasive or
minimally invasive procedures.
For example, a comprehensive
treatment plan may include
injectables and fillers such as
Radiesse, Restylane, Fat
Fillers, and Collagen to fill in
wrinkles in the nasiofold area,
chin, cheeks, and to add
fullness to hollowed areas.
Botox® may be added to relieve
the muscle contraction that
causes forehead wrinkles and
crow's feet.
Certain skin-resurfacing
procedures such as
microdermabrasion, chemical
peel, and laser treatments may
be recommended along with facial
fillers and injectables for
optimal results. The
recommendations for specific
facial fillers and ingestible in
the same location or at the same
time may vary our doctors will
help you to make decision of
combining facial fillers,
ingestible, and skin-resurfacing
procedures.
